Collette V. Fournier Retrospective Lecture: Spirit of a People
Saturday, December 2, 2017 @ 1:30 pm
Martin Luther King Multi Purpose Center
2nd
Join us for an afternoon with Collette V. Fournier as she presents and discusses her photography at the Martin Luther King Multi Purpose Center in Spring Valley. Produced through an Arts Council of Rockland grant, photographer Collette V. Fournier’s “Retrospective: Spirit of a People” is a historic embodiment of four decades of her photography archives. The hour and a half presentation with a Q & A takes the viewer from black and white to color imagery and from film to digital capture. Fournier’s serial works explore themes of The Amistad: From Mystic Seaport to Nova Scotia, Post Hurricane Katrina, Travels to West Africa, and her community.
The event is free to the public, Saturday, December 2, 1:30-3:00 pm, at the Martin Luther King Multi Purpose Center, 110 Bethune Blvd., Spring Valley, NY 10977.
With decades of driven energy and intellectual curiosity behind her, Collette Fournier has amassed an impressive portfolio of visual images. Her photographs explore the complexities of color, light, and tonal values. To say that her body of work is enthralling may be an understatement. Her work captivates and leaves a haunting impression with the viewer. Observers are often inquisitive about the “how” and “why” of what she captures since she has the ability to embolden the soul of what the viewer sees. As a documentarian, she supplements the historical importance of a subject, elevating what may seem to be the simpliest of photos. Fournier’s artistic skills create work that excites, endures and is transformative.
A luminary in the world of photography, Collette V. Fournier, has had a long and celebrated career.
