Using original photographs from his book, An Education in the Grotesque, photographer Mathew Duman will explore the artistic, historic, architectural, and even humorous significance of Yale University’s famed Gargoyles and Grotesques. Join us to learn how these decorative sculptures play a role in visually communicating the identity of Yale University as a place of learning and enlightenment.

Mathew Duman grew up in Bethany, CT and is a photographer and graphic designer. He attended the gargoyle-free campus of Central Connecticut State University but while studying abroad, became fascinated with the architectural detail of the cathedrals of Britain. Mathew has since taken photographic trips to Italy, Africa, Australia & New Zealand & most recently has been seeking out grotesque sculpture around the United States.
