All cooking can empower us by developing confidence, creativity, connection, and calm. When learning to cook, there are recipes and techniques everyone should know to be successful in the kitchen. During this camp, students learn how to cook using everyday staples from the pantry to create meals that are perfect for afterschool, at college, or for a family dinner. We will learn techniques such as knife skills, roasting, sauteing, making vinaigrettes, and more. Students enhance teamwork and communication skills through collaborative group work and develop problem-solving, resiliency, and adaptability. They can explore outside the recipe to work on creativity and innovation. Food connects us, and students develop friends, have a caring space to ask questions, and express themselves in a nurturing environment. These hands-on, immersive experiences inspire, excite, and get kids cooking. Students learn kitchen safety, knife skills, cooking techniques, how to choose produce, how to read a recipe, and how to cook without recipes, as well as table setting and etiquette. My goals are to help students cultivate curiosity, confidence, creativity, and calm in the kitchen and collaborate and connect with peers through food.
