Pre-School Swimming

Pre-School Level 1 (Beginner):
Who? Has never taken lessons, afraid, not comfortable in the water, won't put face in.
What? Teacher assists everything, get them comfortable in the water and teaches the basics - float, glide, kick and arms on front and back.
The objective of this class is to help the child feel comfortable in the water. Skills to be introduced: water adjustment, entering/exiting the water, blowing bubbles, submerging mouth, nose, and eyes, front/back floats and glides, treading water, arm and leg actions on front and back.

Pre-School Level 2:
Who? Somewhat comfortable in water, and will put face in water.
What? Teacher assists swimming but begins to assist less, continues with basics - float, glide, kick and arms on front and back.
The objective of this class is to build on skills from Pre-School Level 1. Skills that will be included: entering/exiting the water, bobbing, submerging head, front/back floats and glides, finning action.

Pre-School Level 3:
Who? Very comfortable in water. Can swim around on own some.
What? Less assistance from instructor, swimming on front and back.
The objective of this class is to ready students for entry into the 6+ year old levels. Skills that will be included: entering/exiting water, submerging head and holding breath, treading water, changing direction while swimming, combined arm and leg actions on front and back.

Participants are allowed one make-up class that occurs during the make-up week of October 24th - October 30th. No make-ups and/or refunds will be provided if the participant cannot make the scheduled dates. In the event of a pool closure or lesson cancellation due to inclement weather, a replacement lesson will be organized by the instructor.
Minimum Enrollment: Minimum of three participants required for class to run. If less than three participants register for a class, you will be informed the week before your class start date and may choose to join a different class or have semi-private or private lessons coordinated.
Pool Temperatures
We offer different classes and skill levels to accommodate each student’s individual swimming goals. Lessons are taught in a fun-filled environment where students learn the basic techniques of swimming and safety skills are emphasized. Water temperature is kept at a temperature of 86 degrees in the Program Pool and 81 degrees in the Lap Pool, an ideal for comfort.
Bad Weather
The Aquatics Center closes for 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder or sighting of lightning, which on some days may be reoccurring.
To inquire if the pool is open or if your class has been cancelled due to thunder or poor road conditions, please contact the Front Desk at (914) 245-4040 for the most up-to-date information.
Check-In
All participants are required to check in at the Reception Desk before each class. If payment is due, please take care of it at this time before class.
Aquatic Program Registration
To register for one of our programs, click here for the Aquatics Registration Form. In order to secure your spot, payment must be taken at either the Reception Desk or by calling the Aquatics Department at (914) 250-2735.
Rinsing Showers
Please rinse off before entering either of the pools or whirlpool.
