Music Sessions @ RoCA
Tickets: $15.00
Enjoy an evening of great music in an intimate gallery setting.
Rockland Center for the Arts is proud to present Johnny Irion in concert for his new album. Irion has just wrapped up a solo record, Driving Friend, due out this spring. The album was produced by Tim Bluhm, backed by Blackwing, the artisan pencil makers with a diverse musical heritage, and features members of Dawes, Wilco, Nicki Bluhm and The Gamblers. The record ranges across a wide expanse of roots genres, from blues and gospel to folk and country. Everything about it feels authentically crafted, a carving out of raw, lived American experience.
By teaming up with Blackwing, a portion of every album sold will benefit the Blackwing Foundation, which funds music and arts programs in public schools. You can learn more at http://JohnnyIrionMusic.com. Blackwing Music was created to shine a spotlight on musicians who deserve attention through live performances, storytelling and album releases. Johnny Irion is currently on tour supporting both Son Volt and The Jayhawks.
For this concert Johnny will be writing two songs in response to Jim Youngerman’s artwork, which will be on exhibit. Youngerman uses Blackwing pencil to reinforce and illuminate the narrative which he puts forth.
Irion is best known for his folk explorations with his wife Sarah Lee Guthrie, including their recent Wassaic Way produced by Jeff Tweedy, and his latest rock venture with US ELEVATOR, which Will Hermes of Rolling Stone Magazine praised for its “songs that are hand crafted as lovingly as the jeans on the back of After the Goldrush.” Irion has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting artists across the folk-rock spectrum, from his uncannily Young-Nilsson-esque voice to his melodic and lyrical mettle.
