The New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) is dedicated to fostering artistic excellence, cultural diversity, and academic growth through immersive, high-quality arts education. Our mission is to provide young artists from diverse backgrounds across New York State with equitable access to world-class training and mentorship in visual arts, media arts, and theatre. We strive to nurture talent, promote lifelong learning, and advance equity in education, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.

Established in 1970, the New York State Summer School of the Arts has trained over 20,000 students since its inception. The In-Residency NYSSSA Program offers an immersive summer experience for high school artists in grades 8-12 to study visual arts, media arts, or theatre. The 4-week summer program delivers robust pre-professional training, personalized coaching, and leadership development to qualified students across the state.

In the Visual Arts intensive at SUNY Fredonia, students have the opportunity to specialize in one 2D art form and one 3D art form. This program is specifically designed to emphasize art experiences that cannot normally be undertaken during a 45-minute school period. You will work in the studio with drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, figure, and interdisciplinary arts under the direction of noted exhibiting artists/educators.

In the Media Arts intensive at SUNY Fredonia, students have the opportunity to specialize in photography, video, computer animation, or filmmaking.

In the Theatre program at SUNY Fredonia, students are provided with intensive instruction in acting, movement, improvisation, and voice, working side by side with nationally recognized faculty. Daily classes include acting, improvisation, scene study, voice, and movement, along with guest artist workshops in stage combat, mask, Shakespeare, playwriting, directing, and acting technique.
