Friends broaden our children’s horizons, share their joys and secrets, and accompany them on their journeys into ever wider worlds. Friends can also betray and exclude. Dr. Michael Thompson will walk parents through the magic and the heartbreak that all children experience with their friends, and discuss the motives and meanings of social behavior. He’ll share fascinating research into the differences between boy and girl groups, why cliques form, why children are sometimes scapegoated, and how parents and schools can best protect them. Dr. Thompson is a renowned speaker and psychologist specializing in children and families, and has authored seven books about parenting, including Best Friends/Worst Friends: Understanding the Social Lives of Children.
