Schools Out Workshops

We are offering workshops from 9:30am-3:00pm on the following days for grades K-5: Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, and Election Day! Come check out our drawing, painting and sculpture one day workshops!

Columbus Day: October 13th
- Once Upon a Time: Monster Storybook Art
- Students will create their own storybook cover of their very own original bedtime story! Inspired by “The Color Monster: A Story About Emotions” childrens' book, Anna Llenas. Let's combine the love of reading, characters and art-making!
Learn how to develop a simple story with your own characters
Demonstrate the use of color, line, symbolism, and scale
Complete a mixed media painting in the pop-art style - K-2
- 9:30am-12:00pm
- Students will create their own storybook cover of their very own original bedtime story! Inspired by “The Color Monster: A Story About Emotions” childrens' book, Anna Llenas. Let's combine the love of reading, characters and art-making!
- Illuminated Haunted House:
- Students will design their Haunted house and create an artwork that lights up!
- Source elements in nature such as grass, rocks, and dirt
- Use lights to illuminate your creation for a day and night version
- Grades 3-5

Election Day: November 4th

- Students will create their own storybook cover of their very own original bedtime story! Inspired by “Yayoi Kusama Covered Everything in Dots and Wasn't Sorry" childrens' book, Fausto Gilberti. Let's combine the love of reading, characters and art-making!
- Learn how to develop a simple story with your own characters
- Demonstrate the use of color, line, symbolism, and scale
- Complete a mixed media painting in the pop-art style

- Cartooning: Superhero Edition
- Aspiring cartoonists will make their own superhero illustration in this fun camp that will combine illustration and character development.. We will focus specifically on superhero comics from DC and Marvel for inspiration.
- Learn how to draw a cartoon illustration
- Develop a unique superhero character from your imagination or choose your favorite to recreate
- Learn to render with microns and illustration markers
- Grades 3-5
- 12:30-3:00pm

Veteran's Day: November
- Color Pop Art
- Pop artists take the simple and common everyday item or image and raise it to fine art. In this class, students will observe and recreate common foods by taking them outside of their typical context to imbue the objects with new meaning.
Learn how to paint with acrylics and print onto your painting
Demonstrate the use of color, line, symbolism and scale
Complete a mixed media painting in the pop-art style - K-2
- 9:30am-12:00pm

- Eric Hibit's Textures:
- Explore elements of color and texture by analyzing the work of Eric Habit and crafting a mixed media painting. Understand the difference of complementary colors and two vs. three dimensional.
