Business/organization type:
Clarkstown has nearly 300 miles of road in an area of forty-one square miles. Local roads are maintained by the Clarkstown Highway Department. The local street network is largely suburban in nature, where it is common to find winding residential streets, cul-de-sacs, and dead-ends. Clarkstown has two interstate highways that provide access through and to the Town. Four roadways are maintained by the New York State Department of Transportation, and thirteen are maintained by the Rockland County Highway Department. Interstate 287 (I‑287) runs east-west through Clarkstown in conjunction with Interstate 87 (I‑87), also called the New York State Thruway. The Tappan Zee Bridge, the area’s primary Hudson River crossing, is part of the I-287 corridor. The Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP) traverses Clarkstown diagonally after originating at the George Washington Bridge and runs to Bear Mountain where it intersects with US Route 6/202.
