The NSCF produces scholastic tournaments to encourage students to put their chess knowledge to the test.
The Bronxville Scholastic Chess Tournament is open to students in K-12. Sections are divided by grade and/or rating. We also have 2 sections for Unrated players: K-1 Unrated and Grades 2-5 unrated so newer players can gain experience and see if they like competing.
Entering the world of competitive chess helps unlock a whole new world for students who love the game. For many, tournaments open up more of the joys and benefits of learning chess. Throughout the school year, the NSCF organizes scholastic tournaments to promote:
Social Connections – Players interact with other players and can form new friendships.
Competition – Tournaments are challenging and help players improve their game. Players who record their moves are able to have their games analyzed and learn from their mistakes.
Emotional Growth– Chess players can experience positive and negative feelings during and after a game. Learning to deal with these emotions is an important step for every child.
Further, the structured environment encourages understanding the rules and being comfortable in asserting one’s own rights during a game. Many rules require players to speak up for themselves.
Plus, they're a lot of fun!
