The National Scholastic Chess Foundation (NSCF) was founded in 1990 to provide the benefits of a chess education to students of all ages. The primary goal of the NSCF’s programs is to develop critical thinkers and expose students to the joys of chess.

For over 35 years, the NSCF has worked with diverse populations using chess to empower students with independent study and problem-solving abilities, and to help educators use chess to attain positive learning outcomes in all core subject areas.

We provide enrichment programs before and after school as well as during lunch periods. We teach chess during the school day. And we offer summer camps in partnership with other organizations as well as through our own flagship program in Westchester County. It's held each July and August at The Leffell School in Hartsdale. The NSCF’s summer instructional team is led by International Master Silas Ebsen Lund and staffed by full-time chess professionals who remain active tournament competitors. That combination of classroom expertise and firsthand competitive experience defines how they work with children.
